how about local newsgroups by state?
Hey, all you netnews administrators out there.  Let's have a standard
newsgroupgroup with the root name being the post office two letter
state name abbreviation.  I would like nj.general for news of interest
to we residents of the lovely garden state.  I doubt that the
watmath'ers up above the Arctic Circle are interested in hearing that
the Computerworld TV show is on channel 9 in New York on Saturdays at
930 am, but I have no way of transmitting that to all my fallow New
Jerseans (and New Yorkeans).  No law against exporting nj.all to New
York, you know.  This entails exporting either the specific newsgroup
or all.  If I just post to nj.general, it won't just get created in the
right places.  I could cheat and say net.nj.general, but that's sick.
