Extended Filenames on UNIX

I heard of plans to do new things to the UNIX file system which would
probably find their way into the Berkeley distribution, but unfortunately
they were going to keep filenames limited to 14 chars.  I don't think
the academic researchers fully appreciate the real need for descriptive
filenames in a production environment.  I'd like to see 80 char. limit.
