re leprechauns
Leprechauns just go away after they rip you off.  Try lighting a room before
you fight one and you'll see.  I conjecture also that genociding leprechauns
will cause loss of their gold hoards, since they're probably not created
until you've killed the leprechaun(much easier to program, I'd guess).
I use arrows or crossbow bolts to fight leprechauns as long as I'm about
5 or more spaces away and have adequate strength, armor, etc.  If they're
too close, I leave them alone.  Haven't been ripped off by one in an age.MAG.
