Food consumption
There's a ring of "slow digestion" that cuts down your use of food.
One of the rings ("sustain strength," I believe) quietly increases
your consumption of food considerably.
	Generally, I just try to be efficient about searching the caves.
Since any given wall is guaranteed to have only one door, and since
certain walls are guaranteed NEVER to have a door or secret passage,
you can be fairly clever about searching even dark rooms.  The game
provides food fairly regularly, and my problem is that I tend to
carry too much...but then, I don't like worrying about being weak.
