Long .newsrc file
If you suscribe to all newsgroups, and unsuscribe to only the most offensive
(like I do), you might be interested in a suggestion:

It often was unbearable for me to wait while readnews checked 
all the newsgroup in my .newsrc file.  I found out I had accumulated 
130 newsgroups!  But only 66 were "active".  So I created a file 
with several hundred lines containing only an 'n'.  The last line
had a 'q'.  Then, I ran "readnews < tmpfile > /dev/null".  I think I'll do
this once a month or so to keep things moving quicker. Depending on your
local set-up, this could be a real timesaver.
