(Yah, when you have that kind of mapping you begin to think we're using the wrong characters for newsgroups....). Thus, '!net.auto.all' rejects all subgroups of net.auto, but not the general group; '!net.auto' would exclude everything about cars. At least in Version A netnews, 'ALL' is recognized anywhere in a string; thus, 'fa.tALL' would select 'fa.tcp-ip' and 'fa.telecom'. I'm pretty sure the same is true for Version B.
