Ventel dialer

We use the Ventel 212+ dialer/modem and have no problems with it.  The hack
to uucico, due to John Levine at ima, is quite reasonable, and will even
(horrors) do dialout and dialin on the same line if you like.
The unit really does dial long strings, deal with our Centrex, etc.  I'm
told there's them that even call over the likes of MCI.  
One point:  We had lots of line noise problems until we ordered an
RJ45S plug for the modem and from Ma Bell.  It's a no-cost option from Bell
that greatly improves signal quality.
