Actually, as was stated by some anonymous person, foobar is (as my unofficial Arnold's Computer Dictionary claims) derived from fubar. The CLEAN (i.e., public) acronym is "Fouled Up Beyond (Any) Repair". Those of you with filthy, disgusting, sick, and perverted minds can probably figure out what the militarites REALLY meant by the "F". (Hint: It's one of those 400 some odd words in Webster's latest which has caused the dictionary to be banned from some school libraries.)
