This would be one of the big advantages of the Illinois "notes" system,
since it keeps track of what's a followup to what.  However, I think B
news could do this reasonably well by sorting each newsgroup by
title and within title by post date.  It would then be an easy improvement
to have it tell you how many more followups there are.

Of course, this doesn't solve the store-and-forward problem, since several
people at different places can follow up at the same time and their messages
won't reach each others machines for hours.  But it would help a lot.
