I implemented a prototype of such an editor after extensive simulations
and empirical data collection from 15,000 actual editing sessions.  The
prototype is not a production editor but demonstrates the feasibility and
considerable performance enhancements of the approach.  The entire
experiment is described in my Ph.D. thesis.
