It seems to me that uucp should perhaps have been done with directories
for every machine.  ie.  instead of D.decvaxX1000 have decvax/DX1000
or would this slow down things even more?  It would remove the 7 character
restriction on system names (or at least extend it to 14)  And allow
longer sequence numbers.
