Beginning programming students now use a dedicated LSI-11 equipped with floppy disk. The system includes a screen editor that is based on the PL/C constructs such as if, do, etc. One amazing feature of this editor is that it is impossible to type in a program with a syntax error. Also, a 'slow run' mode is provided in which the cursor steps through each statement as it is executed.
