I would be interested in trying to help come up with a "universal" notation for synthesizer music in general. In theory, all synthesizers should be able to come up with at least some common sounds, so some kind of musical notation along with a set of symbols for different sounds could be devised. Hopefully, this would not be as complicated as the set of phonetic symbols used for phonetic transcription, but some special markings may be needed for minute, yet important, differences between a general patch and the specific one needed for a piece of music. This could be the start of solo synthesizer music for a single synthesizer. Any suggestions? David C. Elliott UNC-Chapel Hill
