Dimitri (I don't believe we ever found out his last).  The abassador's
name was Kissoff (Kissov?).

The screaming phone in the movie "FailSafe" came from a description
in the book, wherein it was used to confirm the destruction of Moscow.

Has anyone heard of a movie of the same genre called "Red Alert"?
