I can't speak for the brand-new version containing treasure rooms
and so on.  But sufficient number of fallacious claims has appeared
to warrent a reply:
There is nothing in the code to suggest that backing up from a
monster improves the odds of hitting it.  This is mere superstition.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get the version with
treasure rooms, for an 11/70?  If not, how about for a VAX?
