I've noticed something similar, that is, taking a step backwards often
serves to break a streak of misses.  It `may' have helped me vanquish
not only kobolds and jackals but an occasional troll or xorn.  It isn't
necessary to have been intentionally put in the code for it to work. If
anyone else has similar experiences or speculations, please respond.
