Its high power transponder and a complete set of low and high powered ones were still working, and NASA said that a shortened mission was improbable. At White Sands, weather looked good for Monday's scheduled 1427 EST landing, but not good for an emergency landing before then. Such a landing may have to be carried out at a 15,000 foot paved runway at the Cape or, ironically, Edwards Air Force Base. Meanwhile, Jack Lousma fired one of Columbia's engines that had been in the cold for around 80 hours, and the test was perfect.
