I can vouch for the effectiveness of the 1812 Overture in a related
situation.  Our band used to play in a bar in Portland, OR which had once
and for all solved the problem of getting the last drunks out when closing
time came.  They were right on the river, (the mighty Willamette [will-AM-it]),
and had a LOUD sound system.  I don't know how many deaf drunks there are
roaming Portland today, but we always managed to pack our equipment before
the final barrage hit...
