Why would people be excited about a launch but still feel too much is
being spent?  That's easy - I am sure many people might consider a
demolition derby with Rolls Royce Silver Shadows would be exciting
(if they like demolition derbys) but they would not want to pay for it.
These people just consider the space program extravagant in a recession.

Myself, I feel, probably like most people on this list that space is the
way to go to save money in the long run, and we are not going about it
quick enough.  But we're not the public.
