Yes, ICON is the research sucessor to Snobol4.  Several features
were described in a recent SIGPLAN article and it is really
an advancement over Snobol. However, if you want to write
"production" Snobol programs, or have some Snobol code you
wish to run, Macro-Spitbol still seems to be the ticket.
