The shell's mail-checking code has also been smartened up so that it does not do mail checks if the value of the MAIL environment variable is null. The sh(1) manual page has been updated to include the current list of known bugs. Since there were shells active at the time of the switch, this will not be universally effective until everybody has signed off and on again at least once. /bin/bye will vanish once this has happened.
