magtape busted
The magtape is busted.  Any attempt to write on it produces bizarre and
incorrect behavior;  if you lean on the RUBOUT, eventually it gets the
message and stops, with a console message indicating parity error.  This
first happened somewhere in the middle of some testing being done on what
may be a bad tape, but it continues to happen on good tapes, and neither
restarting the system (which includes a bus init) nor powering the drive
off and on helps.

I do not know whether it will READ ok;  I am disinclined to entrust my
tapes to it.
