Compactifications
	Can anyone help with intuition or references
	that might impart some intuition about the
	Stone-Cech compactification?  (Sorry about the
	lack of diacritical marks.)  I have both the
	embedding and filter descriptions and can even
	manipulate the symbols enough to construct
	proofs, but have almost no idea of just what 
	I'm dealing with.  The Alexandroff compactification
	is fairly straightforward and doesn't tax my 
	imagination too much to "see it topologically",
	but this does.
