More precisely, when I establish connection to my unix at 1200 baud, then tell terminal and unix that we are now 300 baud, everything goes at 300 baud. I had fond hopes that some of the attendant noise on phoneline would have its severity reduced by lowering speed. But this alas, seemed not to happen: subjectively, the garbaging on the screen seems about the same percentage, but when I shortly thereafter connect at 300 baud on a Bell 103 acoustic coupler, I have less problem. Is the VADIC signalling scheme inherently more noise susceptible independent of speed? (By the way, I switch in the noise supression equalization as per VADIC documentation, and result is same). Modem at far end is VADIC triple, if that matters. --bob morris
