IBM net
IBM is hardly using the "most unreliable" method, nor is ANYBODY (including
IBM!) likely to ram anything down anybody's throat.  Rather, IBM is using
a Ringnet-type LAN, such as have been running at a number of locations
(e.g. Cambridge U.) for several years.  The critical component in any LAN
is the "dead-man switch" in the connection which insures that no individual
component failure can bring down the net.  Great care must be put into the
design of that component REGARDLESS of the lowest-level protocol.

If you want to continue this discussion, and aren't just anti-IBM for the
sake of it, move this discussion to net.lan.
