I hope that the next generation of netnews interface supports 
 1) editing ($EDITOR),
 2) shell interface ($SHELL),
 3) composer interface ($MAILER),
 4) automatic signatures ($SIGN="your name, site").

The only way to have better standards is to provide tools for them.
