Movie Queries

Has anybody out there heard anything about the second Star Trek motion
picture?  I have heard rumours that it will be based on the TV episode
"Space Seed" and that Spock is going to get killed.
More importantly, are they getting that #$%&! Alan Dean Foster to write
the story again (i.e. will the second movie also be an ineptly scripted
boring rehash like the first one was)?

("molecule-sized microprocessor chips" and "a simple binary code"-- sheesh!)

Once long ago I also heard that "Dune" and "I Robot" were also in the
process of being made into movies.  Any news on the life or death of
those projects?
