It is a collection of articles on recreational topics in mathematics at about the level and range of the articles that appeared in the "Mathematical Games" column run by Martin Gardner in "Scientific American". Both the mathematical and the literary quality seem quite high. What's unusual about the book? It is a surprise present for Gardner on his retirement from the column. And I can't think of a nicer one. Publisher is Prindle, Weber, & Schmidt or Wadsworth International and the book costs about $25. Charles Wetherell
