Some modification of the recipe was necessary, however due to one typo and the unavailability of the small candy bars in a 10 oz. bag ( they come in a 1 lb. bag here ). The buttermilk was replaced with a mixture of lemon juice and regular milk. For those of you who missed the cake the first time around, I will repeat it here and if the original "design" intent has been violated, hopefully the original author will let the net know. Milky Way Cake Ingredients: 1 (10 oz.) bag of small Milky Way bars ( original recipe ) -OR- 6 regular size Milky Way bars ( This gives approx. 11 oz. of candy ) 3 sticks butter ( I used margarine ) 2 cups regular sugar 2 cups powdered sugar 4 eggs 2 1/2 cups flour 1 cup buttermilk ( mix in 1/2 teaspoon baking soda ) ( original ) -OR- 1 cup milk + 1 Tbsp. lemon juice + 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 2 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup nuts ( I left them out as I feared the cake would be too rich - try putting them in ) Algorithm: Melt half of the candy bars with 1 stick of butter in the top of a double boiler until smooth. Set aside. Cream sugar and 1 stick of the butter, add eggs and beat ( not heat as in orig. ) until smooth. Add flour, milk, and Milky Way / butter mixture. Add 2 tsp. vanilla and nuts. Bake in greased pan for 40 minutes to an hour at 325 degrees until done. Icing: Melt other half of candy bars and last stick of butter. Add 2 cups of powdered sugar and pour over cooled cake. If frosting is too thick, add a little hot water or milk. Enjoy! Chuck Young at ihuxi!cjy
