New newsgroup for S users
Since a major proportion of the work in writing S went into the design of
the language, it tends to have some holes in its statistical capabilities
(for example, ANOVA is entirely missing, as pointed out by Edward Fox in
cornell.2769). This temporary drawback is far outweighed by its wonderful
extensibility, for new or existing statistical software can be very easily
integrated into the language. Thus it is precisely an S users group which
is needed to round out the language and fill in some of the gaps. I endorse
the idea of a new news group (net.lang.S) to discuss and exchange ideas and
(pointers to) new statistical software which could be included in the
language.
