UNIX real-time performance

Are there any readily-available reports on the performance of UNIX
for real-time tasks, such as handling special-purpose data
acquisition devices?  Also important are parameters such as context
switch time.  If any report covers UNIX performance on 16-bit micros,
that would be especially helpful.
