Autzoo.828 general utzoo!henry Mon Jul 27 17:25:44 1981 renovations The long-awaited renovations to room 336, our main computer room, are upon us, somewhat earlier than we expected and with very little notice. For the duration of renovations, perhaps a week or more, we will be unable to use 336 at all. During this period we will be providing the best service we can from a temporary base in room 507. The temporary service in 507 will not include the data-acquisition equipment, the card reader, the papertape reader, the 11/05's, or any terminals outside 507 itself. We are HOPING to provide normal service on our dial-in lines, but this depends on the phone company. Private terminals connected by their own cables will be disconnected for the duration, as we cannot restring miles of cable for a week's temporary service. There will be ports and cables available in 507 to connect a fair number of terminals there. Anyone who loans us his/her private terminal for use as a public terminal during this period will have priority on the use of said terminal. We will be shutting down the system Wednesday night for the move to 507. We will probably need both Thursday and Friday to accomplish the move, so there probably will be no Unix service during this time. Limited service from 507 will start whenever the move finishes; service on the dial-in lines will start whenever the phone company manages to connect them to 507. At the end of renovations, there will be another 2-3 day interruption while we move things back. Our guess is that the renovations will take about a week, but we have very little control over this.
