earplugs available
The latest item of vital computer supplies available from Computer Systems:
earplugs.  These are disposable expanding-foam industrial earplugs, very
effective (they quiet down 507 remarkably!), comfortable to wear for long
periods, and fairly cheap:  25c a pair.  They are theoretically one-shot
but in practice can be re-used a few times before they start to get dirty
and the foam starts to lose its spring.  It is possible to carry on a
conversation or talk on the phone while wearing them, although it can
take somewhat more concentration than usual.  See any hack to buy some.

PS they are also very good for quieting down subway trips and air travel.
