As with any group, I would spend most of the night describing the social activities and conventions that define this as a 'group'; but in particular, there is a widespread dislike by 'fans' (in the parlance of SF Fandom, the plural of 'fan' is 'fen'...I'm getting to this.) to the phrase 'Sci-Fi'. In some cases, this is snobbishness, others, it's a dislike of a label often pinned on willy-nilly by the popular media, etc. THAT'S what the song is refering to. Bits and pieces from the parlance and customs of SF Fandom: That amber liquid is 'bheer', not beer; your favorite Supreme Being (you know, the one that isn't ENTIRELY dim) becomes Ghod. In general, you could see anything pick up a silent 'h', but these two seem to catch it all the time. When you hear someone speak of 'corflu', don't run for shots; they're referring to 'correction fluid', a staple of many fanzines. A fanzine is a sort of paper-based netnews. Use of corflu almost mandatory. A 'neo' is a neo-fan, a newcomer to fandom. Often noted drunken in the consuite ogling the lady wearing only some sort of negligible slinky. If I have to define slinky, you're not human. Fans hold parties at hotels known as 'cons', for 'conventions'. Many have themes; many don't, also. All have all-nite howling at the moon, drinking, singing, etc. Often costumes are worn, for the hell of it. One of the things neofen must learn early on is that the lady in the slinky is not necessarily advertising. One of the things neofen must learn early on is that the lady in the slinky may well be advertising. Be cool. Anyway, enough for now. If anyone wants more elaboration, let me know; as I said, there's a lot here... Dave Ihnat ihuxx!ignatz
