She is the author of "Serial," probably the funniest article I ever read while eating cereal. [For those not in the know, "Serial" was orignally published in the San Francisco Chronicle one episode a day. The SF Chron is a morning rag and McFadden's daily shot at life in wonderful Marin County made each morning a little brighter. The articles were collected into a paperback. Also, a poor but funny movie with Tuesday Weld, Tommy Smothers, and other comic types was made from the book. Worth seeing once.] McFadden is a particularly incisive observer of modern America. I read everything I can of hers. She never lets loose language or loose thinking get by. The bachelor book review was just about perfect. And our previous reporter was right; a similar book came out in Houston perhaps a year and a half ago. Seems to be a booming business. Charles
