It is one of those things that has to be endured without paying it a great deal of attention. Yes, I know, this way you get to miss a lot of pain which makes you grow into a stronger (i.e. more callous) person. Callousness can come by rationalizing and externalizing the problem. Variation on a theme: Loneliness can be cured. Emptiness is forever. I remember when I was a kid (8 thru 16), I lived on a dirt road in the middle of the woods. The nearest neighbor was half a mile away, and it would often happen that I had to walk home, through the woods, in the dark. The process of externalizing problems was developed very quickly here. An owl hoots. Jump, oh, just an owl. A stick cracks 100 feet to the right. What will happen, will happen. And I always made it home. Yours, Mark E. Mallett
