I have sort of come to the conclusion that it is best to *not* find somebody with the same interests. For one thing, that tends to limit the scope of the relationship and leaves little to be learned from one another. I have always found it fulfilling to spend time with someone who is really into interior design, french literature; just about anything. I like to learn about other things, for one thing, and it is kind of fascinating that somebody can 'get into' some of the things (I won't pick on economics here...) that people actually *do* get into. In another vein, after you have initially impressed a woman/man with your ability to debug PL/I code, then where do you stand??? I feel that the only recourse is either open competition or avoidance of the subject, humanoids being humanoids. At first, it is easy to discuss such things pleasantly enough, but as discussions get more specific, and areas of specialty come into play, the dangerous area of right/wrong and pride enters into the arena. And more often than not, it causes real problems. I can learn an almost infinite amount about my girlfriend's interests without being any threat to her, and if she cared anything about computers, she could do the same. The truth is that if someone finds you interesting in general, he/she can be perfectly happy listening to you glow as you describe binary-shift left. By and large, I like to find someone with different interests, or direction, but with similar temperament and attitudes. Any disputes? comments? Well, it is true for me.... Glenn Reid
