To the problem of friends of the opposite sex:
Don't you know that you are not supposed to have a friend of the opposite
sex unless your going to bed with that person? Or so society thinks.
If you mention you have a friend of the opposite sex most people assume
that it is more then friendship.  I found that stating the person is only
a friend, still caused raised eyebrows untill I would mention my then
pending marriage.  A lot of people have the dump idea that you can't have
a friend unless they are the same sex.  I have more male friends them
female friends, which is easy when your in the technical side of the Labs.
I was also one of three women in my CS graduating class.  As it is my
husband and I started out as friends. I was dating someone else at the
time, but when I broke up I found out that I had a lot more in common with
my friend then any other man I had met.  Being friends took all the dating
pressure off, we relaxed and got to know each other in the best way possible.
So say to hell with those that don't approve and live the way you are comfortable
not the way society tells you to live.
