If I take the term "sexual hangups" to mean bad (abnormal, unhealthy,
unacceptable) reactions to sexual situations or sexual topics,
then I might speculate that sexual hangups can originate with
improper stimulii (bad sexual situations or abnormal surrounding
attitudes) or bad adjustments to reasonable stimulii (i.e. bad
secondary stimulii).  I'm not sure that it is a question of ignorance
or closed-mindedness, although those individual symptoms (taking
ignorance to mean ignore-ance) can be the hangups presented.

I wouldn't say that intellectual environments are open-minded.  As
far as I've seen, where people have put a lot of thought into something
they then defend the result to the point of great anger, right down
to every inconsequential detail.  Such issues out of recent memory
(today, as a matter of fact): the date shall be written dd-mmm-yy
(where the actual thing under discussion was a piece of code, not
the date) and not yymmdd (or viceversa); how many formfeeds to put
into the code....  reminds me, "To be positive is to be wrong at
the top of one's voice" (Ambroce Bierce).

Aren't you glad you read net.singles?
