Surely after reading the hysterical couple of articles by Scott Orshan (the events for the USENET party, for one), he CAN NOT be serious about hackers not having a sense of humor (Scott is the hacker, I`m not!!!). And surely Wm Leler can't be serious when he states that people talk about stuff on the net they would never talk about in polite conversation, for he knows not what we talk about in such conversations. I enjoy very much sitting down and discussing with my VERY CLOSE friends some very personal problems; and being lucky enough to have some very close female friends (yes, just friends), I oft times get very good advice. ERGO, I simply consider the people on the net my close friends too. BUT, believe me, there is stuff I would gladly discuss with my friends that would NEVER appear on this net! i.e. We all have our limits as to what we will discuss with people. COme to think of it , a friend of mine told me that she was going out for months with a guy before she got him to open up about feelings. (Why she stuck in that long with him is a whole other fascinating question, but she did!) --- now me, once I decide I like a person -- and that can take minutes, days, hours or weeks depending on the person; I am ready to open up to them. What I have learned is: Many people don't want to be "opened up to" that quickly, so oft times I hold back. P.S. THe responses are beginning to come in from the world. Keep them cards and letters coming. If any "brilliant answers" shine through I'll let you all know, otherwise I'll try to summarize things in a week or so. Larry S. Kaufman, WECO, NSC, Lisle, Illinois
