Wm Leler has just suggested that I am an "expert in my field," and I
beleive that he has confused me with Andrew S. Tanenbaum, European CS
notable.  I have never claimed to be him, my name is spelled
differently, I have never masqueraded as him or implied that I was
him.  Funny that Wm, who basks placidly in the anonymity that
accompanies his neuter nickname, would associate my name with the image
of Andrew S. Tanenbaum.

I sign my name (and place of work) so that people will associate it
with my messages, to be able to identify all my messages as a single
entity emanating from me.  If I just signed -trb-, I would surely be
confures with trt, trg, and whoever.  This way folks only mix me up with
one person.  I sign my location and phone number for identity purposes,
and so that folks can get in touch with me if they so wish.  I HAVE had
people call me for information that they needed that they figure I had
just because my phone number was available for the grepping thru the
netnews.  I'm glad to oblige.
