i've considered them bad because it seems to me while they
may be miserly with your light bulbs they are going to be
greedy with your electricity. isn't it the case that when
you convert N watts of ac electricity to dc that you end
up with less than the original N watts? this is what i
remember from my old "basic electricity" days. i figured
that people that had say, a 60 bulb, after installing a
bulb miser would notice that it was dimmer and then replace
it with an 80 or 100 watt bulb.
