Well, from where I sit it seems that a lot of folks WANT to have a way to do this, but are afraid/embarrased/hesitant about coming out and saying it, or doing something about it. Unfortunately, our society seems to put a stigma on someone who reaches out and "admits" they want to meet others - you are somehow degraded by it. YECCHHH! However, there has been some activity already in the form of potlucks, mail/letters exchanged, face-to-face meetings, etc. There was even a submission to the net in the form of a classified ad (the one that wasn't a joke!) - a brave soul indeed. It seems that there are various ways to accomplish the goal of meeting other singles via the net - one needn't submit an ad if that feels uncomfortable. I have not heard of any flaming at anyone for any of the ways used so far (including the ad), and that should make some of you more comfortable. What seems best is for individuals to arrange as much face-to-face contact as possible among net participants - the potlucks and parties seem ideal (I envy those of you at large locations). Also, you could make it a point to "look up" others at your location or at one you are visiting. (I recently visited Atlanta and had a pleasant lunch with Lindsay and Jane.) Friendship and other good stuff can only come from sharing ourselves; the more we do this, the more likely good things will happen. (No, I'm not a preacher!) Keep those net submissions coming!!!
