My point was that there were people who had no concern in the matter who were making all kinds of assumptions they had no right to. Lest you think I'm being hypocritical, I would have believed you when you said the relationship was platonic. If I had felt I couldn't trust somebody's word, I wouldn't end up engaged to him. As an outsider I would have wasted my time with assumptions. What bothered me in your story was that you seemed a bit in- sensitive to the possible reaction of your fiancee, not that you would have another woman over for dinner.
