At the times I've been "single," I've greatly enjoyed the company and support of my friends who were in relationships (married or otherwise) -- and at the times I've been in a relationship, I've always enjoyed the company and support of my "single" friends. Best of both worlds? You bet! Good people are too hard to find without further limiting yourself to those whose situation is "similar" to your own. If Ms. Goldstein is taking the initiative in organizing a potluck dinner and she wishes to restrict it to those who are strictly single, I think that's her prerogative -- and I certainly think she's entitled to get angry at suggestions that such a potluck will simply be a "meat market" if it excludes couples. Someone else can certainly get it up to organize a couples-and-singles dinner, right? On the other hand, I think this news.group is a public forum, and anyone should be entitled to contribute....
