Title: Sharing Expenses in Proportion to Income

Suppose two people are married or involved in a serious
live-in relationship, and one earns substantially more than
the other.  Should they pay for their common, household
expenses in proportion to their incomes, or should they
divide these expenses exactly in half?  I'm curious to
find out what are other people's thoughts about this.
