Yes, a suggestion.  Talk about what the legal marriage means to each of you
and then do exactly that - I mean with a lawyer or preacher or whatever.
If you don't *call* it 'marriage', the tax laws won't apply!  
I personally approve of marriage as both a personal and legal contract, and
I would write something and sign.  Also, I wouldn't want to miss out on the
fun of the big social wedding!  I'm not, however, interested in our gov't's
marriage license.
