Article-I.D.: tpdcvax.211 Posted: Mon Nov 15 21:09:46 1982 Received: Wed Nov 17 00:59:57 1982 I think that the married name of a woman and the last name of the children is something that has to be decided on a case-by-case basis. I happen to have a rather unusual last name and rather liberal views in general, so a woman that didn't want my last name wouldn't bother me a bit. I value independence in friends of both sexes. However, if I were to marry a woman with a more common last name (say "Smith", or "Jones"), I would have a good argument for giving the children my name. If her name was also unusual, I could see the kids with either name, but would still favor mine. I would be most concerned about the names for male children, as they still tend to "go further." Please no flames about the way I've used "common" and "unusual" to describe last names. I wonder how I'd feel if my name were "Smith" or "Jones".
