We wrote a short contract, which said we would live together for a year and see how it worked out. We also put together a list of things that we talked over about every two weeks. The list consisted of our concerns and possible problem areas we might encounter, such as : 1. Do you feel like the housework is shared alright? 2. Do you feel like the finances are fair? 3. Is the other person doing anything that bugs you? 4. Are you getting enough privacy? 5. Do you still feel special (not being taken for granted)? 6. etc. I think planning to talk over this list has helped us keep the communication lines open, and not let things build up. Now, after about 9 months of living together, we don't use the list, but once every few weeks sit down and talk about how things are working out, and if anything bugs us. It's working out fine.
