It all depends on what you both want. If you want it to work, make the time
to see each other.  My husband and I spent nine long hard months commutting
from St. Charles to Milwaukee (me) and Milwaukee to St. Charles (him) every
two weeks.  It was hard, but it was a lot harder to not see each other.  The
phone and letters just don't match the warmth of another holding you close.
So it all depends on just what you and the lady want.
I used to hitch a ride with one of the guys that worked at the labs and 
went to Milwaukee a lot.  I'd split gas money, it gave him someone to ride
with and my car a rest.  This could be an idea for the lady, or you.
Not much help but I got a happy ending.
